Beyond the classroom: Encouraging students to make a difference in society

• The Konkan region, renowned for its diverse flora and fauna, is a hub of medicinal plants and traditional folk medicine practices. In 2010, MES Ayurved Mahavidyalaya was established to enhance medical education and foster collaborations between local communities and researchers; affiliated with MUHS, Nashik, and approved by the NCISM, this prestigious institution in Ghanekhunt – Lote offers top-notch Ayurvedic education in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. MESAM was founded to address the inadequate healthcare services in the region, which faces challenges due to its harsh geographic location.
• The institution is committed to providing exceptional Ayurvedic education to students and healthcare to the community, especially in the remote Konkan areas. By focusing on disease prevention and health promotion through Ayurveda, the institute strives to deliver superior patient care, enhance overall well-being, and improve society’s health.
• With a mission to integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific advancements in medicine, MESAM aims to develop comprehensive educational programs. The institute is dedicated to nurturing students’ holistic growth by fostering social awareness, instilling a sense of social responsibility, patriotism, and a commitment to serving society without any discrimination. Through engagement in social causes and various activities, the institute encourages students to contribute positively to society, embodying values of motivation, inspiration, and inclusivity.
• Throughout the years, the students at our institution have actively participated in the programs organized by Parshuram Gramin Arogya Vikas Abhiyaan, Sevankur Bharat and Seva Bharati organizations. These programs have focused on delivering ayurvedic and holistic healthcare to the rural and remote communities in Konkan and periphery regions of Maharashtra. Our institute’s vision of providing quality care for all has been at the forefront of these initiatives.
• Sevankur Bharat is a nonpolitical organization affiliated with medical students, welcoming undergraduates, postgraduates, interns, and professionals from various medical fields as members or volunteers. It transcends barriers of caste, creed, and religion, emphasizing inclusivity. Membership is free, and participation is voluntary, focusing on practical learning through interactions with role models, exposure visits, group discussions, and decision-making. Activities include lectures by eminent personalities, workshops for soft skills, competitions, exposure visits to tribal areas and socially oriented projects, movie screenings, book reviews, residential camps, discussions on current topics, games, entertainment, and cultural programs. The organization has organized numerous camps across Maharashtra, drawing 200 to 300 participants each time.
• Visiting the Medical Gallery provides insight into Sevankur’s activities. Their main objective is to promote sustainable development by encouraging active community health betterment participation by the students aiming to create a society that is fair, harmonious, and environmentally friendly.
• One of the key strategies in this collaboration is to instill social commitment among students by providing them with opportunities to engage in community service, learn about social issues, and develop a strong sense of responsibility towards the betterment of society. Through these experiences, students gain valuable insights and skills that not only benefit their future careers but also contribute to the creation of a more compassionate and equitable world.
